About ShareWave

ShareWave is a browser-based file sharing service designed to make transferring files between devices simple and direct.

How ShareWave works

ShareWave uses modern WebRTC technology to establish a connection between the sender and receiver. The signaling service helps the browsers find and establish the connection, while the actual file transfer is performed through the WebRTC data channel.

When the network allows a direct peer-to-peer connection, the file data can travel directly between the participating devices rather than being uploaded to conventional cloud storage.

Direct peer-to-peer transfers

ShareWave is designed around browser-to-browser transfers. Files are not intentionally uploaded to a normal ShareWave cloud storage account for later retrieval.

Network compatibility

Some networks, firewalls, VPNs, carrier networks, and NAT configurations can prevent a direct peer connection. In those situations, ShareWave may use a TURN relay to help establish the connection.

No account required

ShareWave does not require users to create a traditional account before starting a transfer.

Important: Connection behavior depends on the network conditions of both participating devices. A direct peer-to-peer connection cannot be guaranteed on every network.
